Our Story
In 1996, founder Ginny Saville bought a bundle of goods made from industrial hemp from legendary Kentucky hemp activist Gatewood Galbraith. Little did she know, that moment would spark a journey that would come to define her life – and eventually, help shape Kentucky’s head shop scene for decades to come.
“You know how people say they start on a shoestring… well, we started on a broken shoestring,” Ginny laughs when talking about The Botany Bay’s humble beginnings.
Today, The Botany Bay is a well-known name across central Kentucky, with three retail locations, including two in Lexington, and a growing online head shop offering everything from legal THC products like Delta 8 and THCP to Kratom, vapes, glass, and smoking accessories.
